Kona Coffee Burger with Wasabi Mayo
May 25, 2018
May is National Beef Month, and we’re celebrating by teaming up with a few Hawaii companies to bring you a new recipe every week. It also happens to be National Hamburger Month, so this week, we’re featuring a burger recipe seasoned with Ka`iulani Spices Organic Kona Coffee Rub. Ka`iulani Spices’ blends are locally roasted, ground in small batches and designed to make cooking easy, delicious and healthy.
When making hamburgers, we recommend using our 80% lean/20% fat ground beef blend for the best flavor. (Available at Times Supermarkets, Kokua Market and more stores.) For more recipes from Ka’iulani Spices, check out their cookbook, Spices for Life.
Ka’iulani’s Kona Coffee Burger with Wasabi Mayo
Prep time: 1 ½ hours (active time: 30 minutes). Serves: 4.
1 pound Kunoa ground beef
2 to 3 tablespoons Ka’iulani Spices’ Organic Kona Coffee Rub (to taste)
Wasabi paste, to taste
½ cup mayonnaise
4 hamburger buns, toasted
Favorite hamburger toppings
Sprinkle Ka’iulani’s Kona Coffee Rub over ground beef and gently mix together, being careful not to overwork the meat. Form mixture into four patties. Cover and let rest in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to let the flavors meld.
In the meantime, mix wasabi paste into mayonnaise to taste in a small bowl. Set aside.
Grill or fry the hamburger patties using your favorite method. Toast buns, spread with wasabi mayonnaise, then add burgers and toppings of your choice.
