Loco Moco Love

October 25, 2017

Loco moco. If there’s a better dish to make with Hawaii-grown ground beef, we don’t know of one.

This Hawaiian comfort-food breakfast is perfect in its classic form—a hamburger patty served over rice topped with gravy and a fried egg. But we were blown away when we saw how one of our Instagram followers made it. @rhythem.is.life808 sauteed Kunoa ground beef, served it over Okinawan potatoes and topped it with a homemade veal demiglace infused with truffle oil. Wow!

What’s great about loco moco is that you can make it your own with whatever you have on hand. We’ve rounded up a few more riffs on this local favorite, in case you need any more reasons to plan a loco moco breakfast this weekend.

Because caramelized onions make anything better.

One Pot Hawaiian Loco Moco
This one includes mushrooms and would make a great breakfast-for-dinner dish.

Asian-Inspired Loco Moco
In this how-to loco moco video from Jay del Corro (aka The Aimless Cook) he uses red miso in the gravy and rice seasoned with furikake.
