March Is the Time to Eat Localicious
March 4, 2018
Chefs are some of the biggest advocates of local food, and we love seeing the creative dishes they create with our Hawaii-raised meat. This month is a great time to sample what local chefs have been cooking up with local food lately.
March is the fifth-annual Localicious Hawaii campaign where 260 restaurants are offering special dishes featuring locally grown, caught or raised foods. Organized by the Hawai’i Agricultural Foundation (HAF), $1 from each order will donated to the organization’s agricultural education programs in the public schools.
We’re not surprised to see several of the restaurants we supply on the list of participating O’ahu restaurants, including Town Restaurant, Outrigger Waikiki, Makana Market & Deli and Ravish. We are grateful to all of them for being champions of Hawaii-grown food and Kunoa supporters.
Localicious is an important fundraiser for HAF, whose mission is to support Hawaii’s agricultural industry, in part by educating youth about farming operations and careers. Since the program’s launch in 2014, Localicious has raised more than $170,000 to provide approximately 200 classrooms with garden kits and structured agriculture-related curriculums. The foundation they’re laying today will build Hawaii’s future food leaders—some may even end up working for Kunoa someday!
Visit localicioushawaii.com to find a list of all participating restaurants by island. And look for the Localicious dishes on menus statewide.
